What does sensory overload feel like?

Overstimulation does not feel like a sound being too loud, it feels like having no filter left. Everything lands with the same force: the conversation next to you, the light, the seventeen open questions. You get short, you want out of the room, and at home you go quiet. Many people call that tired, but it is something else: your senses have had no pause.

Is overstimulation the same as being highly sensitive?
No. High sensitivity is a lasting way of processing information; overstimulation is a state anyone can reach when too much comes in and too little recovery follows. Highly sensitive people reach it faster, but overstimulation also shows up with stress, ADHD, autism, burnout, or simply a life that is too full.
