The routes one by one
MentraNova
You can browse every profile yourself, without an account, or tell us once what is going on and get a few suggestions. Then you talk directly with the psychologist or coach and pay them directly; we take no commission. It helps most if you want help in your own language, are not sure whether you need a psychologist or a coach, or do not want to sit on a waiting list. For professionals it costs more than a yearly listing: €19.99 a month incl. VAT once they take on clients.
Coach Overzicht
A Dutch directory with many kinds of support, from coaches to mediators, with filters by province and place and a guided questionnaire. You contact people directly and many coaches offer a free introductory call. For a coach it is cheaper than MentraNova: €49.95 the first year and €74.95 a year after that, excl. VAT. Their checks cover profile, identity and transparency; their quality page does not mention diplomas or registrations. It focuses on the Netherlands and is in Dutch.
Network psychologist in Belgium
The cheapest route for people insured in Belgium: the first individual session is free, then you pay €11 per session, €4 with increased reimbursement, and nothing up to and including age 23. No prescription is needed. The number of reimbursed sessions is limited (for adults, for example, 8 for support and up to 20 for treatment per 12 months), and each psychologist has a limited number of hours under the agreement.
GP and mental health nurse in the Netherlands
For people insured in the Netherlands with mental health complaints, the GP is the simplest start. Conversations with the GP or the mental health practice nurse (POH-ggz) do not count towards the deductible. Mental health care in the basic package does, €385 in 2026, and needs a referral.
Professional registers
If you mainly want to know whether someone is recognised, the register is the place: the Psychologencommissie in Belgium, NIP and the BIG register in the Netherlands, NOBCO and ICF for coaches. You search yourself and get in touch directly. A register tells you about recognition, not about who has room this week.
Which fits you?
I am insured in Belgium and mainly want to pay as little as possible.
Look at a network psychologist first: the first session is free and after that you pay €11 per session, or €4 with increased reimbursement.
I am insured in the Netherlands and have mental health complaints.
Start with your GP. Conversations with the GP or the mental health practice nurse do not count towards the deductible.
I am looking for a coach in the Netherlands and want to choose from many profiles myself.
Coach Overzicht has a wide Dutch range with filters per province. On MentraNova you can browse yourself too, with fewer names but also psychologists and help in other languages.
I want help in my own language, or I do not know whether I need a psychologist or a coach.
On MentraNova you can filter by language, or tell us once what is going on. We then suggest a few people and you talk directly with whoever you choose.
I want to check whether someone is really recognised.
Look in the register: the Psychologencommissie in Belgium, NIP or the BIG register in the Netherlands, NOBCO or ICF for coaches.
In acute distress? Do not wait for any route above. Call 112, in Belgium the suicide line 1813 and in the Netherlands 113.
