What to Expect
Your first coaching session is primarily a getting-to-know-you conversation. The coach wants to understand who you are, what you're struggling with, and what you want to achieve. There are no wrong answers.
What a Coach Typically Asks
- What brings you here? - The reason you're seeking coaching
- What do you want to achieve? - Your goals and desired outcomes
- What have you already tried? - Previous attempts and what worked/didn't
- What does your ideal situation look like? - Your vision for the future
- What's holding you back? - Obstacles and patterns
- How will you know coaching has worked? - Measurable success criteria
How to Prepare
- Think about what you want to change (don't need to have all the answers)
- Be honest - the more open you are, the more effective coaching will be
- Write down 2-3 things that bother you most
- Know that it's okay to feel nervous
- There's no commitment after the first session
Most important: You don't need to have your problem figured out. That's literally what the coach is for. Come as you are.
What Happens After
After the first session, you and the coach decide together if it's a good match. If so, you'll set concrete goals and plan a trajectory. If not, that's perfectly fine - finding the right coach is important.
